I’m so bored of this friggin book. I now know why everyone thinks Philosophy is about religion…..The more I read this book the more I wonder….if there was a God wouldn’t he smite Socrates/Plato for ever unleashing a book that is so full of shit. It is one of those books that you go along with and your like YEAH OKAY YES I GOT IT. Then you realize the ending point has nothing to do with what the discussion is about.
I find my self more and more liking Thrasymacus’s argument that justice is what is good for the stronger. I mean when you look at Socrates final argument of what justice is it boils down to minding your own business, but that makes no sence. I mean in organize crime you mind your own business you do what your supous to do to make it work, but still yet is that really just?
We read this crap because these are the great minds of the time. But so where Archimedes and I don’t see many death rays. What about Tesla and his numerous machines? I don’t know if there is a god, but I don’t think there is, and if there is then he left us a long time ago. I am so sick of faith being an excuse for being stupid. My ex didn’t believe in dinosaurs. I didn’t say the moon landing or aliens I said Dinosaurs. I didn’t realize that this was a debate. I mean what the hell are all the fossiles found all around the world. Hell I have found some not even looking for them did the “devil” spread them around. Turns out that her paster and his wife believe that Dinosaurs and man co-excited. I refered to them since that time as Fred and Wilma.
Then there is the evolution thing. “I don’t believe man evolved from monkeys because there are still monkeys” Okay for one do children evolve into adults YES and there still children, and two we evolved from monkeys that aren’t around in this day and age. I mean is it really my generation that is getting lazier and dumber or is it a misunderstanding between my generation and my parent/grandparents. Remember kids don’t fuck up or God will through you into an eternal lake of fire and sorrow for the rest of time where you will be miserable and wish that you could go to what you used to imagine hell would be…..but he loves you….

If you read the book by thinking that Plato really thought that Thrasymachus’ argument was a VERY powerful one, you might be see why writing an argument against it would be so difficult. (Have you read Allan Bloom’s commentary?)

Well the who direction he went Socrates/Plato. He went into some mini details about basically how men sometimes make mistakes, but in my opinion that wasn’t Thrasymacus’s argument. It wasn’t justice is what the stronger thinks it is good for them. I mean you could make these kinda general comments through out the book. Socrates don’t men sometimes make mistakes and sometimes when there minding there own businesses are they really or are they doing things that they think are meant for them. See what I mean…
